I spent some time analyzing school districts in the US. I used a dataset from NCES 2024-2025 Public School District Data to create the following table:
Much of my time with companies in this space has been spent analyzing these details and then figuring out how to market to each one. The challenge is tough, as many times a small district is equally as needy as a larger, potentially more valuable district. It makes sales and marketing difficult as the constant tension between needing lots of contracts to get to your number or 1-2 contracts that secure the entire year.
I have always wondered why the US Dept of Education doesn't get as specific in providing services in more differentiated ways. Companies do this all the time and use data to drive logical, targeted and focused solutions for students and schools. These data are just simple district details with Student Enrollment. I will share other findings in this data set in future blog posts.
Nearly half of all districts support only 6% of all students in the country.
